History of Divisional Secretariat, Manthai west
The division situated in northern part of the district and the Mannar district is situated in the Western side of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is known as a greater part of the district. Poonakary division in its northern border, Madhu division and mannar division are in its East and West border respectively. Indian Ocean in its south border. It divided in to 36 Grama Niladhari divisions and 173 villages within the 673.97 sq. km of total land.
Over 30 years the division was under the LTTE control. It is mostly affected division by the internal war. Most of the Tamils displaced to India and outer districts. The entire moor displaced to other part of the country mainly, Puttalam district during the 1990. After 2009 may 19 all the part of the division brought under the control of government and the displaced moor resettled in their origin places. Some people still remains to be resettled who are living India and other out of country.
